"We discovered that education is not something which the teacher does, but that it is a natural process which develops spontaneously in the human being." Maria Montessori

Meeting Updates:
The SEAFOM Board gathered for its regular quarterly meeting on December 16, 2025. Discussions included an update to new mentoring program at Montessori Borealis that has hired a Para-Professional to help in all of the classrooms, while she learns about the various levels of Montessori certification so she can pursue AMI training in the (hopefully) near future. The Board also received a finance report that showed distribution of student scholarships, and a report on teacher training and recruitment to fill vacancies.

Our next SEAFOM Board meeting will be January 14, 2026 at 5pm in the Montessori Borealis Library. We will review proposed bylaw changes, and prepare for the Spring funding request applications. All members are welcome.

Our Mission

SEAFOM is a nonprofit educational organization dedicated to support schools and individuals throughout Southeast Alaska by promoting, developing, implementing, and maintaining Montessori education, as created by Dr. Maria Montessori.

Who We Are

SEAFOM is a membership organization founded in 1994. For more than 25 years we have financially supported dozens of teachers, at every level of the Montessori continuum, to obtain Montessori teaching diplomas through the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI), which is known for its high standards, in-depth and hands-on training.

We provide scholarships to families of modest means to remain in private Montessori programs during their kindergarten year to ensure the completion of the three-year cycle in the program, but most importantly to support the culmination of the child's Montessori experience at this stage of development.

We support Montessori programs in every possible way to ensure their success.
